CAMELLIA SINENSIS (GREEN TEA )

Family: Theaceae

The Tea plant has long been cultivated in India, SriLanka, China and other Asian countries. It is an evergreen shrub or tree usually maintains at a height of 2 - 3 feet by regular pruning. The parts used are the leaf bud and the two adjacent young leaves.

Active Principle:

The main active principles of Green tea are catechins like epicatechin, epigallocatechin, epicatechingallate and epigallocatechingallate and caffeine. It also contains other polyphenols.

  • Cancer Prevention
  • Stimulant
  • Prevents ageing

Advantages:

  • Green tea consumption with meals inhibits the formations of nitrosamine. nitrosamines are formed when nitrites such as those used in the curing of Bacon and Ham and bind to amino acids.
  • The popular custom of drinking Green tea with meals in Japan is though to be a major reason for the low cancer rate in the country. Green tea could be consumed with other extracts without any side effects.
