Family: Solanaceae

It is otherwise called ‘Ashwagandha’ or ‘Indian Ginseng’. Ashwagandha is found in India, Mediterranean and the Middle East. It is an erect shrub with flowers greenish or lurid yellow, about five together in an umbellate cyme.
Active Principle:
The extracts taken from the roots contain pharmacologically active withanolides (Withaferin A) and alkaloids. The standardized extract has 1.5% withanolides and 1% Alkaloids.
