Shikakai (Acacia sinuata)

It is a prickly climbing shrub. Fruits are pods, brown, flat, fleshy, wrinkle when dry, depressed between the seeds, to 10 cm long and 2 cm broad. Seeds 10 - 14.

Active Principle:

Contain alkaloids, nicotine and colycotomine, a triterpentine. saponin (20.8%) saponins (acacinin-C, -D & - E), oligo and polysac charides.

Clinical Uses:

• Used to treat burning sensation and skin diseases like eczema.
• It gently cleans the hair without stripping it of natural oils. It is a hair conditioner.
• Also used to control dandruff, promoting hair growth and strengthening hair roots.
